Report of Damage for Meeting

After almost a year of empty promises and excuses, Armand Blum has abandoned his responsibility of installing the alarm system in the RV area.

Our Vice President witnessed the smoke from the siren when Mr. Blum directly connected line voltage thru the system’s 12 volt multi strand telephone wire.  When confronted, Mr Blum said he only powered the siren circuit with 110 volt and refused to take responsibility for the destroying the 8 sensors.   He did accept responsibility for burning up the siren and did purchase another from the manufacture to replace the one he damaged.

An alarm specialist, Tom Atwood, surveyed the installation and discovered that no transformer was present to create 12 volts to power the system.  He also noted that there was no panel to turn the system off and on.  For a proper installation, a control box should have been installed to access the system without opening the gate, using a keypad to turn it off and on.  It also should have a programmable amount of time for the alarm to sound.

He also thought it not practical to protect only 2/3’s of the area and not the whole thing.  Someone can enter the area from the unprotected end and disrupt power to the alarm system.

Two of the eight sensors were removed and tested by Mr. Atwood and found to be non-functional.   He also cautioned that the wire should have been encased in conduit and that electrical connections were roughly taped together and vulnerable.   He stated that the installation did not appear to be done by someone who knew what they were doing.

He has given us an estimate for $852 to replace the eight burnt sensors, provide a control panel,  2 transformers and conduit as well as labor to replace the sensors, install the control box and align and test the system.

The RV owners group met this past Sunday.  After much discussion, it was agreed that everyone would donate again to replace the damaged sensors and have the installation completed by an alarm contractor.

It was also decided to increase the coverage to the entire area as the only additional cost would be the cost of the wire.  A few in attendance volunteered to dig the ditch for the wire to keep the labor cost down.   Anyone that currently stores anything in the RV area that did not donate last time is encouraged to help offset the cost.  Donations from anyone would also be greeted with heartfelt thanks.
